Elie Saab and the Poetry of Elegance

by Lotus Ladegaard

Elie Saab entered the fashion world as a bridal designer in the early 80s and made a name for himself creating beautiful bridal wear with lace, silks and detailed embroidery. The Lebanese designer was the first non-Italian designer to be a member of the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda. Over the years, his unique style of fusing western and eastern culture has gained him a strong following from royalty to divas to fashionistas alike around the globe. Elie Saab’s spring 2017 bridal collection ranges from beautiful gowns to carefully designed jewelry and accessories. From beautiful off-the-shoulder ballgowns to a-lines, Elie Saab delivers classic elegance mixed with romantic femininity. The a-line with lace top and a full- length robe along with the embroidered and beaded moderate ballgown are my favorite styles. Overall, the collection is every bit beautiful and exquisite, however, it is also somewhat expected. Granted most bridal designers do not aim to be fashion forward, nevertheless, it still feels like many of his other bridal collections. Luckily for the fashion forward, Elie Saab also has an eye for accessories. His eye for detailed embroidery and beading, lace and beautiful fabrics has also been put into creating accompanying jewelry and accessories, just to put the icing on the cake. The most successful pieces are the accessories. Swirled simple and elegant jewelry which will let the embroidery and beading on the gowns shine, beautifully embellished veils and fur shawls are all little details that will complete the look. Elie Saab has a huge following around the globe and for a good reason. His 2017 spring bridal collection will undoubtedly do well with his fans and many brides will be seen wearing his creations, this year.
